The Center for the Study of Charter Schools (CSCS) is an applied research center of the Orelena Hawks Puckett Institute.
The major aims of CSCS activities and initiatives are a better understanding of the characteristics of asset-based, capacity-building models and approaches to education and how they influence the development and implementation of charter school practices, as well as how they promote students' learning and self-efficacy as learners.
The staff of the CSCS develop and implement practices that are guided by theory and evidenced-based practice. Specifically, Center staff use conceptual models emphasizing the influences of asset-based, capacity-building approaches to students' learning and development, and examine the manner in which these approaches are related to positive outcomes and consequences for students and their families.
The CSCS provides researchers, teachers, administrators, and families a forum to identify and investigate various aspects of learning environments and instructional methods that are likely to be associated with positive academic and social outcomes for students participating in charter schools.
